When God Seems Silent On Our Prayers…

I am one of those people who believe that the beginning of every new month is filled with new hopes, new mercies, new grace, and fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit.

While this idea of newness marks the beginning of every month, I know it can sometimes get overwhelming (for some of us) to realize that the end of the year is fast approaching and our prayer list looks like nothing we anticipated at the beginning of the year.

This is because the 9th month of the year can be quite significant and filled with much anticipation because it ushers in the ‘Ember months’. It is the last quarter of the year and its like one is in the last lap of a relay race.

We begin to wonder why God is silent on those big and even small issues of our lives. We have fasted, prayed, confessed, danced and rejoiced over these issues, yet the mountain seems not to be moving (in our eyes anyway).

And for some, there are some prayer points that were even carry-overs from the previous year and 2016 was supposed to be Our Year … The year we land the dream job, break even in our business, get married, start or complete our building project, begin a family, become a mother or father or get investors for our start-up… and the list goes on and on.

Our confessions and prayer points are usually a representation of what we have imagined our ‘ideal life‘ could be, and how happy we would be when all our prayers are answered. Hence, we are quick to get discouraged when this ‘ideal life‘ seems to be eluding us and we just cant seem to catch a break.

From personal experience and testimonies (personal and of people close to me), the silence of God on payers and matters I feel close to our hearts often mean 2 things:
A) Wait
B) I have a better plan for you

WAIT ON HIS PROMISES: Waiting on God for a prayer to be answered has thought me never to throw in the towel and give up on my hopes and dreams. Instead, I let God do what only He can do because I have realized that no matter how I wail, work up my anxious heart to a state of depression, or try to emotionally blackmail God, He still makes all things beautiful in His TIME. Yes, let me say it again;

GOD MAKES EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL IN HIS TIME. (Ecc 3:11)

Now God’s time might be today, tomorrow, this month, next month, before December or in the Next Year. Remember, Peter already hinted us that with God;

 A day is like a thousand years to the Lord and a thousand years is one day’ (2 Peter 3:8).

With that in mind, I am daily learning now to WAIT on Him and His sure promises. Delay is not denial, and trust His timing always.

GOD’S BETTER PLAN: Soren Kierkegaard, the Danish theologian, philosopher and poet, has been attributed to the famous quote:

‘Life can only be lived forward, but understood backwards’.

I first heard this quote from a friend of mine and I must say that the older I get, the more sense it makes to me. As a Christian, it even makes a ton of sense. Hence, it didn’t come as a surprise when I traced the history to a theologian.

Come to think of it, have you ever looked back on your prayer diary or journal say from 10 or 5 years ago? Look at some of the prayers you think God was silent on or were not answered and try to remember what God replaced that specific prayer point with.

I have experienced how time and time again God cancels my prayer request only to give me an unexpected miracle that blows my prayers point out of the park. In times like that, I am full of praises to God for not answering the prayer I felt I needed at that point. Does this sound familiar?

Therefore, I’m equally learning to trust God and holding on to the promises of God for my life as they are YES in Christ and so through Him, our ‘AMEN’ is spoken the glory of God (2 Corinthians 1:20). The scripture also reassures us that if God did not withhold His only Son but gave him up for us, it is impossible for God not to graciously give us everything that our soul desires (Romans 8:32) especially if they are part of His will for us.

Therefore, regardless of what is going on around us, or the delay we seem to be experiencing in getting answers to our prayers with the end of the year fast approaching, be rest assured that delay is never denial with God.

Now is also NOT the time to lose faith! But instead, we ought to be more steadfast with our confessions, whilst we patiently wait for His perfect timing. Remember that not having what we think we deserve now is often an indication that God has got better plans for us which He will unveil also in His time.

So don’t lose faith. Trust in the all-powerful, all-loving and all-giving God. He has already offered His only begotten son for our sins. Therefore, if our prayer point is nothing compared to the gift of Salvation, then be joyful in the wait and expect God meeting or exceeding your hearts expectations.

And yes, it can be before the end of 2016!

Here is to a testimony-filled month.

  1. Whao, this is a very interesting and inspiring message. I am a living testimony to how God responds to prayers through the means mentioned in the article. In 2009, I was trusting God for a laptop. I went for window shopping, I had my spec in place, I was already saving up for the device. At that time it was number ONE on my prayer list. God had to do was the next best thing for me at that point in my life but HE (God) was silent. I didn’t get a go ahead and HE was not give me the inner peace but you know whenever you are so desperate you won’t want to care.
    In the month that I had planned to buy the laptop, I was given a laptop in church for my department and I could use it for my personal project. So I was wondering why God will allow me to go through that process knowing fully well that He has a better plan on how the laptop will come about. So I stop saving more money and I refused to withdraw the money from the bank.
    About a year after, I visited a friend house and I overheard her mummy talking to someone on land property issue. I was led to ask if she is dealing with land and property so she said yes if I know anyone who is interested I should let the person know. About a week after, I was led to ask her about the landed property and she asked if I know anybody who in interested so I said what does it take to be interested.
    She gave me some information and told me if I am interested I should show it in cash. While I was thinking where I was going to get this money from, the Holy Spirit mentioned to me that the main reason why I was saving the money is for this opportunity. I withdrew the money, made a part payment and today my family and i have a roof over our head to the glory of God.
    So many time we are not careful in the place of prayer. We entered into prayer conciously with our list of request but not careful enough to get God’s list of request into place. It’s a great thing to seek his face in whatever we are planning to do and wait for his response.
    Delay is not Denial.
    GOD bless you
